Iron Man 2 on set Video, Sam Rockwell Spotted April 7th, 2009

Lots of shots showing Downey Jr., Paltrow and Favreau moving around, walking, traveling by car – nothing too sensational and a little bit too stalker-ish for my liking. However one interesting plot point to take into account is that Sam Rockwell is spotted on set (featured in the video) – Rockwell is playing villain Justin Hammer, possibly putting him at the rumored extension of the “I am Iron Man” scene from the first movie – though this is mere speculation. Video comes via JFXOnline.

Black Widow, Pepper Potts and Stark love triangle on the cards April 7th, 2009

MTV recently quizzed Robert Downey Jr. about a potential Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Tony Stark love triangle in the Iron Man sequel. He responded, “Heck yeah, Wouldn’t you?” – MTV claims this is confirmation of said plot point, whereas it could just be Downey Jr. having a bit of fun – I’ll opt to classify this little one as rumor for now.

Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle as Rhodey on set April 7th, 2009

It didn’t take very long for the first on set pictures from Iron Man 2’s first day of shooting to show up online! SpoilerTV have posted a gallery of images showing Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert Downey Jr. and newcomer Don Cheadle as Rhodey on set.

Besides the usual nature of candid on set imagery one interesting thing to note is the box that Tony Stark is carrying, a small black lunch box that bears the Iron Man emblem and the phrase ‘X-treme’. What does Tony Stark have in his sandwiches?

Garry Shandling in Iron Man 2, pictured on set April 7th, 2009

WENN recently confirmed via Robert Downey Jr. that Garry Shandling would be appearing in Iron Man 2, and there were reports that he was on set at an ‘undisclosed location’ yesterday. His role? The IESB commented on this:

Shandling is a reporter or Senator or some sort that appears in a continuation of the final scene from the first IRON MAN film, you know that famous “I am Iron Man” scene. We start this film from there is what it looks like.

We have since had an image from Pacific Coast News showing Garry Shandling on set:

Iron Man 2 filming is underway, Favreau twitters April 6th, 2009

And director Jon Favreau has been twittering again, to our delight, updating throughout the first day with a number of status reports:

Going over script with RDJ one last time before shooting.

On my way to set. Not much sleep, as one could imagine. First day at camp. Very excited.

Lunch! Boy it’s great to be back at work. Many familiar faces in cast and crew. I am so blessed to do what I love with wonderful people.

First day went great. I’ve never worked on a sequel before. It’s like we picked up where we left off.

He also posted a couple of shots to stoke our excitement. The first shows “no camera on set”, which I guess Favreau is exempt from, being the director and all. I am enjoying this new trend of tidbit social movie reporting from those behind the scenes.

Iron Man 2 filming starts in Pasadena at Masonic Temple April 6th, 2009

In December we revealed that the Iron Man 2 production would come under the working title, “Rasputin“. With filming set to begin today it’s time to look out for said production crew.

The City of Pasadena is one such place, they report that “Iron Works Productions LLC” will be working on “Rasputin” on 4/5 and 4/6 at 200 Euclid Avenue S. That corresponds to the Masonic Temple.

Robert Downey Jr. talks Iron Man 2 April 4th, 2009

ET have been speaking with Robert Downey Jr. about The Soloist and Iron Man 2. He reveals,

“The film is almost entirely about character, and yet we still have twice as much action as we did last time, so it’s going to be nuts. [...] Essentially ‘Iron Man 2′ is about looking behind the armor, or the armature, of a superhero. It’s one thing to say you’re Iron Man, it’s another thing to be fully ready to do that.”

As for Scarlett Johansson,

“We’ve been rehearsing and she’s in insane shape. She’s getting lean and mean.”

RDJ has also been speaking to MTV about potential Iron Man 2 storylines:

“I think [Demon in a Bottle is] probably best saved, because it’s such its own storyline,” Downey told MTV. “We’re going for the interim space [between the origin and Demon], which is more a look behind the mask of someone who says he’s Iron Man and what it really is to become a superhero.”
